Act 127, which requires single-user restrooms in public buildings and places of public accommodation to be identified with gender-free signage, went into effect on July 1, 2018.
As a result, each single-user restroom in those locations must be labeled 'restroom' or 'bathroom' and made available for use by persons of any gender. The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has jurisdiction to investigate complaints of non-compliance, and the Department of Public Safety's Fire Safety Division has authority to inspect for compliance.
